Strait Traffic Maps the World’s Chokepoints
A maritime intelligence dashboard tracking ship movements and transit counts across major straits and canals.
Field notes
The dashboard separates completed passages from live vessel sightings: IMF PortWatch supplies daily counts, while AIS positions cover transmitting ships inside monitored zones during the last 30 minutes where shore receivers reach. Its comparison layer uses each chokepoint’s seven-day average and normal level, producing labels such as Normal, Reduced, or Closed. The captured overview reports 6 Hormuz transits at 4% of normal, versus 260 Taiwan Strait transits at 102%.
