Castellan, the edge stack with a rollback reflex

castellan.cloud Observed source
Editorial interest 82/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

An open-source managed edge cache and WAF that runs on infrastructure the customer owns, from AWS and GCP to Hetzner and DigitalOcean.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-14 issue.

Field notes

Castellan separates a control plane from pools of interchangeable edge nodes, with each pool sharing Redis and receiving complete, hash-addressed configuration bundles. The page describes validation with both nginx -t and go-proxy-cache -test before reload, plus queued purge records that survive node downtime. Its example pool contains three Helsinki nodes, including one that rejected a bundle because of an unknown `modsecurty` directive while continuing to serve the previous configuration.
