The Ocean That Wants to Be a World
A browser-based ocean simulation that couples maps, chemistry, habitats, currents, and animal behavior across named marine environments.
Field notes
The interface combines a world map with named 1 km marine cells, using GEBCO for map tinting, GMRT for the seafloor, and HYCOM mean currents when that service responds. Its scale model changes with distance: individual agents appear near the camera, density represents kilometres-out views, and basin conditions use Eulerian fields. The glossary specifies a 128×128 ecological patch, shared water column, light attenuation, diel migration, oxygen minimum zones, and other simulation variables.
