UrsiQ — Bear Intelligence You Can Trust
A Shakotan, Hokkaido system that combines field cameras, video analysis, and connected alerts to monitor bear activity.
Field notes
UrsiQ uses multiple field cameras to capture still images and video, screen observations locally, and send material to a central UrsiQ Core platform for analysis and alerting. The site says suitably placed cameras can detect car-sized objects at roughly 200 metres and person-sized objects at around 50 metres. Its first stated use case is Yobetsu Elementary School in Shakotan, where uncertainty about bear presence affected children’s ability to walk to school or use the playground.
