Webarchy, a Desktop Inside a Tab

webarchy.dev Observed source
Editorial interest 84/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

An open-source, keyboard-driven tiling desktop that runs in a browser tab.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-15 issue.

Field notes

The desktop uses binary-split tiling: adding a widget divides an existing tile, while closing one lets the remaining tiles expand. Its app model is unusually explicit—a module must provide mount(el, ctx) and destroy(), allowing pasted JavaScript or URL-loaded modules to become tiles. The page lists nine virtual desktops, persistent layout and widget data, and built-in examples such as Intum Tasks, Weather, Pomodoro, and a browser.
