An in-development macOS and iOS system lets users double-tap their earbuds, speak to a home Mac, and hear its response through the same earbuds.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-16 issue.

Field notes

The system separates the interface from the computation: an iPhone supplies microphone and speaker access while a Mac at home runs language detection, transcription, and response generation. The page distinguishes local Wi-Fi transport from remote relay transport and reports that a 93 KB capture exposed only ciphertext-like noise, while IP addresses, timing, byte counts, and room identifiers remain visible as metadata. It also records a 5.55-second whole-turn measurement and four attempts to settle on the earbud gesture.
