Where Japan’s Radio Waves Go
A Japanese data explorer maps registered mobile base stations and fiber-optic coverage across 1,741 municipalities.
Field notes
The explorer combines Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications records with population and fiber-coverage data, then presents the results through municipality searches, prefecture tables, and several rankings. Its current snapshot lists 665,541 registered stations across four carriers and distinguishes indoor small stations and femtocells from broader infrastructure through explanatory notes. A useful corrective runs throughout the page: these are reported facilities and estimated household coverage, not direct measurements of reception quality or connection speed.
