An Overberg restoration project turns cleared invasive trees into guided walks, paper, firewood, and charcoal.

Field notes

REFYN describes a closed-loop process for biomass removed from fynbos and renosterveld in the Overberg. Bark enters a vat to become hand-formed paper, while the woody core becomes firewood and charcoal on the same fire; leftovers return to the soil. The homepage lists easy two- to three-hour walks at R550 per person and a full-day option at R1 450. Its studio products remain in production rather than available for inspection.
