WeWater Maps Sri Lanka’s Tanks from Space
An interactive Sri Lankan water-monitoring project turns four decades of satellite observations into tank, district, cascade, and evidence views.
- For
- Sri Lankan water researchers, developers, and tank observers
- Worth noticing
- Its legend separates measured, modelled, and indicative values, while warning that colour is not litres or design capacity.
Field notes
The interface organizes the archive around water years, with October–September periods and separate Maha and Yala seasons. Tank colour is relative to the most water that tank has been seen holding since 2015, not a litre measure or a share of design capacity. A separate confidence vocabulary marks values as measured, modelled, or indicative. The page also offers CSV export, developer mode, and a field-report pathway intended to add observations that satellites cannot provide.
