Smew: CAD That Gets Out of the Way
A direct 3D modelling app for Mac that lets makers sketch, pull, fillet, and export parts without managing a parametric feature tree.
- For
- Mac users making printable or exchangeable 3D parts
- Worth noticing
- The beta keeps documents local and exports STEP, STL, 3MF, OBJ, and glTF with controllable mesh density.
Field notes
The beta uses OpenCASCADE and treats documents as ordinary local files rather than cloud projects. Its modelling workflow combines direct face manipulation with sketches supporting coincident, tangent, equal, and dimensional constraints. The page also describes an assistant that performs operations on the local model, plus Model Context Protocol support for compatible external assistants. A SHA-256 checksum and Apple notarisation details accompany the 50 MB download.
