Shindo Screener keeps an eye on local shaking
A free, bilingual Windows app displays JMA earthquake intensity readings for a selected location and can chime when they meet a chosen threshold.
- For
- Windows users in Japan monitoring local earthquake intensity
- Worth noticing
- The page distinguishes measured JMA intensity from magnitude and says the app does not predict shaking.
Field notes
Setup accepts city names in English, romaji, kanji, or kana, then offers four listening profiles ranging from “New here or visiting” to “Only the big ones.” The app can remain on a spare monitor and, according to the page, stays quiet until a selected intensity condition is met. It receives early-warning notices through Wolfx and measured intensities through P2P地震情報; the developer says settings stay on the PC and the source is public on GitHub.
