Measuring Cryptanalytic Effort
A research page estimates how much public cryptanalysis has been devoted to the assumptions behind public-key encryption.
- For
- Cryptography researchers and public-key security watchers
- Worth noticing
- Across counting and source choices, the lattice/ECDLP ratio ranges roughly from 1.3 to 2.6; the page says this is sensitivity, not a confidence interval.
Field notes
The study starts from roughly 16,000 keyword-screened candidate papers across IACR ePrint, DBLP, OpenAlex and zbMATH, then applies a written classification rubric and a second review of included, borderline and sampled excluded items. It maps publication output to author identities and estimates research-allocation years from each researcher's topic share; the page warns this can overstate time actually spent. Interactive charts let readers switch counting views and sources, inspect data, and save SVGs.
