Shyeld maps the permissions hiding inside Chrome extensions
A free Chrome desktop extension that audits installed extensions’ access to webmail, files, and AI chats, and alerts users to new installs or permission changes.
- For
- Chrome desktop users checking extension access
- Worth noticing
- The interactive demo uses fictional extensions; scanning and first alerts are available, while app mapping and malicious-list checks remain planned.
Field notes
The current version scans installed Chrome extensions and sorts them by risk, translating permissions into access to webmail, files and documents, or named AI chat sites. The page says scanning and the first alerts are available now; mapping connected apps and checking a public known-malicious list are future work. Its interactive dashboard is explicitly example data, not output from the real extension, and the site says version 0.1 makes no network requests.
