World Whale Museum: an archive before a building
A web museum tracing whales through art, household objects, books, currency, stamps, and the histories of work and food.
- For
- Readers exploring whales in human culture
- Worth noticing
- Records with unfinished names or descriptions still receive fixed IDs; the collection’s photographs are not yet included in the public catalogue.
Field notes
Isana Bunko is the collection assembled by honorary director Toru Hosoda, and the museum describes it as its starting collection. The site says records retain existing management numbers alongside added fixed IDs; its preservation plan also links multiple photographs to one object and distinguishes group shots from individual images. Catalogue information is searchable, but the photos have not yet been added, and most descriptions and the interface are in Japanese.
