Dark4More takes a Mac screen below its brightness floor
A macOS menu-bar app for dimming MacBook displays below the system minimum and controlling external monitors from the keyboard.
- For
- Mac users who work in dim rooms or use external monitors
- Worth noticing
- External-display controls use DDC/CI; monitors that do not respond receive a translucent dimming overlay instead.
Field notes
The internal display’s four-step dimming begins below macOS’s stated 6.25% floor; the last step turns off the MacBook backlight, with a brightness-key press restoring the screen. For external displays, the app sends brightness, contrast, and volume commands over DDC/CI; displays that do not respond get a translucent overlay instead. Version 0.1.0 requires macOS 14 or later and Accessibility permission, and the maker says external-monitor support has not been tested on every display.
