Editorial interest 78/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

A U.S. gold-mine map and directory combining mine records, historic-producer counts, and places to tour or pan for gold.

Landing page captured for the 2026-10-15 issue.

For: Gold-history researchers and mine-tour planners
Worth noticing: Only 688 of 3,059 MSHA records have coordinates; historic-producer counts appear separately on state and county maps.

Field notes

The homepage separates MSHA mine records from USGS historic-producer counts rather than treating them as one inventory. Its state listings include not-abandoned and abandoned totals, while the mapping caveat says only 688 of 3,059 MSHA records have coordinates; historic producers appear on state and county maps. A separate tour section uses Google Maps listings and notes that working mines are closed to the public.
