A photo library that thinks in species
SpeciesViewer is a free Windows desktop program for organizing nature photographs around species, trips, and collections.
- For
- Nature photographers organizing species-based collections
- Worth noticing
- Images can be placed from camera GPS data, a GPS track, or by hand; species names can use English, Dutch, or scientific names.
Field notes
The desktop workflow starts with a memory card: photographers cull thousands of RAW, HEIC, or JPG images using ratings and colour labels, then assign species names. It can place images from camera GPS, a GPS track, or manual positioning, and gather each species’ strongest images with dates and locations. Trips, albums, and optional published sites are assembled without duplicating image files; the collection is stored as ordinary folders and files rather than a database.
