14亿分之一: A life, drawn from China's statistics
An interactive life simulator assigns a birth region in China and lets you make choices through a statistically grounded, imagined lifetime.
- For
- Readers curious about demographic chance and life paths
- Worth noticing
- Death timing uses sex-specific life tables calibrated to provincial life expectancy and a Gompertz–Makeham model.
Field notes
Birthplace can be sampled by either recent birth counts or the distribution of the current population, giving the simulation two different starting assumptions. Its regional inputs include housing affordability, income, university admission difficulty and life expectancy; mortality timing is modeled with sex-specific life tables. The page says historical figures are reconstructed from older indicators, future years are projections, and all figures are approximations for simulation rather than research.
