A forthcoming iPhone app for looking up San Francisco buildings and reading sourced, plain-language summaries of public records.

Landing page captured for the 2026-10-25 issue.

For: San Francisco residents curious about nearby building projects
Worth noticing: It distinguishes an issued permit from active construction and says when records contain no opening date.

Field notes

The described lookup can start from a photo or a map, with the user choosing among nearby address candidates rather than relying on GPS to guess the intended building. The page names three San Francisco data sources and says answers link to dated records. Its examples also distinguish a permit marked complete from completion of every change at a property.
