Item 8 preserves a collaborative fiction, response by response
A complete online archive of a collaborative hypernarrative written on the Meta Network from 1997 to 1998.
- For
- Readers of experimental and collaborative fiction
- Worth noticing
- The archive keeps 29 non-surviving response numbers as gaps rather than silently renumbering the surviving text.
Field notes
The archive presents the text in chronological river order and offers a telnet-inspired view modeled on the Caucus prompt where contributors originally wrote and read one response at a time. Its inventory records 212 responses by 19 writers, retaining 29 missing numbers as gaps; an index and glossary document people, references, and vocabulary. The editor says the transcript was collated line by line against a 2000 witness, and the current edition includes readings cast for individual writers.
