starchy finds the layout bugs between breakpoints
An open-source CLI that sweeps a page across screen widths to find and report responsive-layout problems.
- For
- Frontend developers testing responsive layouts
- Worth noticing
- Its sweep stops around both sides of CSS media-query breakpoints, then binary-searches layout changes to the exact pixel.
Field notes
The CLI drives headless Chromium through Playwright, records how children sit in rows and what is visible, then steps down in 8-pixel increments and binary-searches changed fingerprints. It classifies widths as media-query breakpoints, fluid changes, or problems, and writes an HTML report plus fingerprint.json for later comparison. The homepage lists checks including overflow, hidden-in-a-range elements, clipped text, and links wrapping across multiple lines; Node 18+ is required.
