VoiceElmer gives ham-radio operators a voice-operated station assistant
A Windows prototype uses spoken commands to aim compatible antenna rotators, look up callsigns, and find directions to cities or grid squares.
- For
- Amateur-radio operators using compatible rotators
- Worth noticing
- Selecting a target does not move the antenna; the operator must issue a separate GO command.
Field notes
The prototype has been demonstrated with an M2 RC2800PXAZ-D over direct serial and with PstRotatorAz over UDP; the page does not establish compatibility with other rotators. Destinations can be specified by city, grid square, callsign, or bearing, but movement requires a separate GO command. The page says core voice processing runs locally, while QRZ lookup uses the operator’s account and an internet connection. Public downloads and registration are not yet open.
