petalOS: an Android ROM with fewer Google assumptions
An Android 16 ROM for OnePlus phones that lets users choose Google Play, microG, or neither, alongside a set of built-in privacy and convenience features.
- For
- OnePlus owners looking for an alternative Android ROM
- Worth noticing
- CATBACK can import a car identity from an Android Auto APK without requiring that APK to be installed.
Field notes
The service-provider switch is described as reversible: changing providers removes the previous provider's updates and app data. For app restrictions, the page distinguishes between reduced background activity and a deeper mode that also blocks network access, background execution, location, and Bluetooth scanning; push services and battery-exempt apps are excluded. The page also says Work mode can allow whole apps or individual contacts to remain readable.
