A public guide for checking permit rules for home projects—including roofing, HVAC, solar, fences, and decks—across U.S. cities.

Landing page captured for the 2026-11-01 issue.

For: Homeowners and contractors planning common home projects
Worth noticing: The homepage reports 95,009 permits tracked from city open data and says some city-and-project combinations have not yet been verified.

Field notes

The checker asks for a city and project type, then presents a rule with supporting source context and, in the Chicago roofing example, a fee and median issue time. City pages and project guides add permit counts drawn from city open data. Coverage is not universal: the homepage says some city-and-project combinations have not been verified.
