Synod puts its multi-writer PostgreSQL failure tests on the record
Synod is a prototype that aims to let multiple PostgreSQL servers write to the same tables while preserving acknowledged commits when a writer fails.
- For
- PostgreSQL teams evaluating multi-writer failover
- Worth noticing
- The results page reports zero missing acknowledged changes across 309,727 changes and nine writer failures.
Field notes
Synod says it builds on Neon's open-source storage and adds a multi-writer engine, cluster membership, sharded storage with standby failover, and an installer and control plane. The site presents a timed failure sequence in which one writer is frozen while the control plane is off; the remaining writers fence it, continue committing, and later allow it to rejoin. The project labels the software a prototype and dates its AWS testing to October and November 2026.
