Mojibake, served byte for byte
A test suite for web scrapers and HTML parsers, built from HTTP responses that expose differences between scraper stacks and Chrome.
- For
- Web scraper and HTML parser developers
- Worth noticing
- The page distinguishes a combined Requests/Parsel test from testing a parser’s byte decoding with r.content and the Content-Type header.
Field notes
The corpus is exposed through /cases.json and /c/<id>; each case includes a selector, Content-Type, fingerprint, Chrome extraction, and measured-stack answers. The page’s Requests/Parsel example tests response decoding and parsing together, while explicitly noting that r.text means it does not isolate Parsel’s byte decoding; for that, it says to pass r.content and the header. Some entries are controls where the originally intended divergence did not reproduce.
