ElectionShift maps how U.S. counties changed between elections
An interactive county map compares voting shifts between U.S. elections since 2000, with city or ZIP lookup and a CSV export.
- For
- People comparing U.S. election results by place
- Worth noticing
- It flags counties without a Democrat-versus-Republican contest and keeps those cases out of its shift rankings and national figures.
Field notes
The map encodes the change in the Republican-minus-Democratic margin in percentage points, while a separate option uses only the two major-party vote totals. For counties without a Democrat-versus-Republican contest in either year, the page uses a hatched treatment and vertical arrow for independent and third-party share changes. Its notes also document geography exceptions, including Alaska's statewide arrow and county-boundary cases such as Broomfield, Colorado.
