Sketchpad Redux, a browser drawing program with a 1963 control scheme
An interactive drawing program inspired by Ivan Sutherland’s Sketchpad, with tools for drawing and editing points, lines, arcs, and circles.
- For
- People exploring early interactive computer graphics
- Worth noticing
- It reproduces the two-handed console metaphor: pen or stylus in one hand, keyboard commands in the other; there is no undo.
Field notes
The drawing surface models a light-pen console: keyboard commands start operations, and the active point snaps onto nearby geometry. Points, lines, and arcs can be moved or merged; deleting a point also removes attached geometry. The guide documents mouse, stylus, and touch controls, plus keyboard and knob-based navigation. Drawings save in the browser, while installation opens the app in its own window and enables offline use. The page explicitly says there is no undo.
