Field notes
The state index includes counts for each state, while Ohio and Pennsylvania are marked as having no public-land permit and point readers toward choose-and-cut tree farms. Its labels separate forests with posted 2026 details from those showing current rules or an older published season. The page also gives a packing list and notes that Recreation.gov may add a reservation fee at checkout.
