Why it surfaced

The site openly admits that its central story is placeholder copy, then commits to the full newspaper apparatus: sections for world news, sport, culture and business, a sidebar of absurd headlines, subscriptions, complaints, tip lines and even SecureDrop. Its deadpan promise of “the truth, more or less” makes the unfinished state part of the joke.
