Re:Orient Earth, With South on Top
An interactive equal-area atlas and daily geography game that lets visitors rotate the world, compare map projections, and reconsider why north is conventionally placed at the top.
Field notes
The atlas lets visitors change both projection and orientation rather than treating a single world map as neutral. Its comparison section gives concrete area contrasts, including Africa at 30.4 million km² versus Greenland at 2.2 million km², and the page links outward to USGS, NASA, DOI, NPR, and other sources. A daily game and downloadable poster extend the project beyond the explanatory essay, including toward classroom use.
