An interactive map showing how far people must walk to reach groceries, pharmacies, schools, playgrounds, and other everyday amenities across Canada.

Field notes

à portée compares walking access at the scale of individual Canadian blocks. Users select amenity types and read the resulting distance bands, with the farthest selected destination determining each block’s shade. The project combines OpenStreetMap amenities with Statistics Canada’s health-facility registry and block geography, and says routing considers hills and other factors. Its stated service layer includes API access, historical and more granular data, custom amenity lists, what-if analysis, and bike or transit times.
