Third Pole Watch listens for Himalayan collapses
An open-source seismic watch scans public waveform feeds for glacier collapses, ice-rock avalanches, and debris flows.
Field notes
The detector combines public feeds from GEOFON, EarthScope, and community Raspberry Shake stations, then applies an explicitly uncalibrated v0 heuristic for long-duration, long-period movement signals. The displayed replay uses four open stations and reports coincident triggers on II.NIL, G.WUS, and GE.NPW at T+349 seconds, ahead of the cited T+2280 SMS alert. The project emphasizes that its output is unconfirmed research data rather than an official warning.
