Slipcase: a ZIP file that refuses to lose its metadata

slipcaseformat.org Observed source

Slipcase defines the .slpc container format, pairing any payload file with a TOML description inside a single ZIP archive.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-03 issue.

Field notes

Each container keeps a single payload beside slipcase.metadata.toml, whose required fields identify the specification version and payload filename. The format deliberately limits payload.file to a plain filename rather than a path, and ordinary ZIP tools can inspect or extract the archive. The project also publishes 87 declared-verdict test containers and links desktop, command-line, and double-click implementations, giving prospective implementers material beyond the format description itself.
