Winehaven Trust Is Trying to Save a Winery, a Town, and a Crane
A Richmond nonprofit documents and campaigns to preserve the Winehaven Historic District at Point Molate, including its brick wine cellars, worker cottages, and a threatened WWII shipyard crane.
Field notes
Winehaven is presented as more than a surviving winery complex: the district included cellars, a powerhouse, fire station, hotel, school, post office, and worker cottages. The site connects that layered history to a present preservation fight, noting that the buildings later served Navy families and fuel storage. A separate campaign concerns Richmond’s Whirley Crane, which the Trust says worked during World War II and has gone more than 20 years without real maintenance.
