Grain, a reference library that refuses to swallow your files
A Mac and Windows app for arranging images, audio, video, 3D models, webpages, and notes on canvases while keeping the underlying material in ordinary folders.
Field notes
Grain treats a project folder as a store and builds a searchable index over the ordinary files inside it, rather than creating a single proprietary board file. Its vocabulary is unusually deliberate: groups are canvas frames, grains are individual collected items, and media is what each grain contains. The page says search can reach tags, colours, markdown text, spoken recordings, and semantic descriptions through optional models running locally. Version 0.10.1 is offered for macOS 12+ Apple Silicon and Windows 10/11 x64.
