Ripple Effect, a branching narrative graph tool
A desktop application for writing, mapping, scripting, translating, and playing branching stories from folders on your own computer.
Field notes
The application represents projects as ordinary folders: boards use JSON, passages use Markdown, and scripts use Python, with stable IDs and sorted keys intended to keep version-control diffs readable. Its graph editor can trace every route between passages, span linked boards, and execute a playthrough whose checkpoint is a node ID. Translation files sit beside the source passage, and the page says stale or untranslated choices are explicitly reported rather than silently falling back.
