MarineCast: Forecasting Where the Fish Are
MarineCast uses public oceanographic, survey, and catch data to forecast where commercial fish species may be found and how much can be caught there.
Field notes
The documented workflow combines ICES DATRAS haul records with ERA5 meteorology, treating unmatched scientific hauls as true zeros rather than assuming that an unrecorded catch means missing data. MarineCast reports forward-held-out evaluation from 2019–2026 after training on 2001–2018, covering six species and 20,358 survey hauls. The public page describes heatmap delivery with per-cell readouts and an offline trip package, but operational access is requested rather than openly demonstrated.
