backupd: the NAS backup janitor

backupd.org Observed source
Editorial interest 84/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

A Go-based backup lifecycle manager that pulls completed artifacts from a remote server, verifies them, commits them to a NAS, and only then deletes the originals.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-11 issue.

Field notes

backupd runs on the NAS side of a backup pipeline: it finds completed artifacts over SFTP, transfers and verifies them, records a durable commit, and delays remote deletion until afterward. The documented Docker installer chooses the filesystem layout, creates the SSH key, and pins the image. First-run access is claimed through a single-use enrollment token that expires after 30 minutes, while the reference covers twenty commands plus installer flags.
