言語図鑑 — ことばの星図
A Japanese-language atlas of the world's languages, combining linguistic essays, endangered-language context, an index, and an interactive constellation of voices.
Field notes
The atlas organizes its material as a seven-part journey from language counts and branching to disappearance, revival, and synthetic pronunciation. Its evidence base is explicitly named: Ethnologue 2024 and UNESCO's 2009 endangered-language atlas. The voice layer uses the browser's Web Speech API, so it does not provide recordings by native speakers; the page also notes that unsupported languages may have no voice or only an approximate Japanese reading. A daily selection changes at midnight in Japan.
