The Wylie Homeplace, Where a House Crossed the Highway

The project organizes a family history around a one-story frame house of roughly 900 square feet, described as having been built in the early 1900s without electricity or indoor plumbing. It pairs family memory with deed records and places the house beside the Catawba Rosenwald School, built in 1924–25 through Black community fundraising, labor, public funds, and philanthropy. Both landmarks were affected by the same highway widening, giving the site a shared infrastructure-and-community frame.
