Butterfly, rendered as a living particle cloud
An interactive observatory for exploring recorded Papilio polytes flight as three-dimensional particle motion.
Field notes
The page replays 18 short flight segments from five Papilio polytes butterflies, captured at 500 frames per second and inspected through orbit, playback-speed, trajectory, trail, and frame controls. Body position and two forewing markers drive the animation; the thousands of particles are an illustrative surface rather than a complete anatomical scan. The project identifies its motion data as Chen et al., MIG 2022, and links the published dataset, paper, coordinate mapping, and reproducible conversion.
