Flight Tracker, for the aircraft-curious
A public tail-number lookup for US-registered aircraft, combining registration details, ownership history, specifications, and NTSB accident records.
Field notes
The service joins FAA registry material with NTSB accident records and prior-registration data, then makes those records searchable by tail number. Its homepage reports 383,393 prior registrations and highlights ownership chains extending back to 1935. A separate live-map link uses position data attributed to adsb.lol contributors under the ODbL 1.0 license. The site explicitly separates research use from operational decisions: its information is not intended for flight planning, airworthiness determinations, or title verification.
