ほとけを彫る — A Catalog of Buddhist Sculpture
A Japanese catalog documenting Buddhist sculptures, their makers, materials, locations, dates, and occasional viewing schedules.
Field notes
The catalog groups 210 works by period, maker, material, location, and viewing access, covering 39 sculptors and 45 prefectures. Its schedule distinguishes objects shown monthly from those opened only once a year, including several entries at Tōdai-ji and Kōfuku-ji. The project deliberately preserves gaps: it reports missing photographs and records cases where source material does not establish a work’s subject or date. The page also identifies image licenses and credits for individual photographs.
