The project organizes coffee history around five questions rather than a single chronological stream, including who carried the cost and what changed the cup. Its flagship reading is described as 21 chapters covering subjects such as Sufi practice in Yemen, Ottoman coffeehouses, Atlantic plantations, Brazilian slavery and credit, espresso, instant coffee, and the moka pot. A timeline offers landmarks from the 15th century to the present while explicitly avoiding uncontested “firsts.”
