TawkType — Voice typing that stays on your Windows PC
An open-source Windows voice-typing tool that turns speech into text inside the app you are already using.
Field notes
TawkType inserts dictated text into the active Windows application through a held shortcut or toggle key, with a dictation box available when insertion fails. Its local model choices include NVIDIA Parakeet and OpenAI Whisper; the page gives a roughly 670 MB model size and says a GPU is optional. Vocabulary rules can normalize names, brands, and acronyms, while four modes distinguish literal transcription from cleaned, conversational, or technical output. Claude rewriting is presented as optional and off by default.
