Ternmaps: Surf Conditions in Wood and LEDs
Handmade wooden wall maps use colored LEDs to display wave size and quality at selected surf breaks.
Field notes
The map uses two visual channels at each break: LED count communicates wave size, while color communicates quality, with the page defining a range from red “Bad” to purple “Perfect.” Setup happens through a phone-based Wi-Fi connection, after which the device is described as operating without an app or subscription. The listed launch inventory is unusually concrete: ten East Coast maps, ten California maps, and ten North America maps, all currently shown as out of stock.
