DoomFly Puts a Fruit Fly on the Feed
An interactive experiment lets visitors steer a procedural fruit fly through an endless social feed and watch its simulated nervous system react.
Field notes
DoomFly combines a procedural fruit-fly model with a feed interface that includes Feed and Reels modes, stimulus categories, and eight visible activity regions. Its participatory layer gives each visitor one browser-session vote per 15-second round; the selected post then drives the shared specimen, with updates syncing roughly every two seconds. The page identifies 60,000 synthetic points and explicitly separates the experience from validated neuroscience: the anatomy and activity are stylized, and its “dopamine” signal is fictional.
