HazardSim Turns Real Coastal Cities Into Flood Scenarios
A map-based simulator that models tsunami flooding, sea-level rise, and meteor-scale inundation against real terrain, city boundaries, and population data.
Field notes
The simulator uses a clicked coastline to identify a city and turn its real boundary into the calculation area. It combines OpenStreetMap city and population information with Mapbox Terrain-RGB elevation data described as 10–30 metre resolution, then models water moving inland across ground below the selected level. Its aftermath panel includes flooded area, inland reach, maximum depth, and casualties; the page explicitly labels those results as orders of magnitude rather than a forecast and assumes nobody evacuated.
