The figures are hand-built and fired without glaze, leaving open pores and fine iron speckle that the page compares with volcanic stone. Their expressions come from a single eye-pressing gesture, while the kiln determines later changes in color and surface. The artist makes pieces singly and in small groups; paired figures are described as creating a conversation in the space between them.
